CNY preparations(18 jan)

Today is 19Th of January, and Chinese new year is just around the corner. Today, my family decided to start our annual spring cleaning in preparation for Chinese new year. I groaned. This meant less slacking and more work for me to do. Although my mother calls it "family bonding, i have lots of better ideas for us to"bond". Reluctantly, i rolled up my sleeves, picked up my rag and cloth, and set to work. I started with the windows. It seemed to have accumilated a decade worth of dust and "fossilised"insects.

We cleaned the dog, the fridge was thoroughly wiped, and moped every cranny of the floor. But after 3 hours of 'torture', we were not even half done. But after all, we still had 2 weeks. I could not understand why my mother was so fussed about cleaning the whole house today.

I guess chinese new year means alot to my parents. To them it is much more than just going to my other relatives and eating sweets ang getting hong pao. It is like a tradition to them, passed on from thier ancestors hundreds of years ago. However, more and more people these days are getting lazier. They prefer to stay at home and watch television rather than to visit their relatives. Therefore, i hope that this tradition will still be carried out and will continue for ever. Nil sine labore.

my CCA (18 Jan)

Today during CCA, which is NPCC, we witnessed the arrival of the new secondary 1 cadets. Sporting enthusiastic faces, 28 of them turned up. some came to NPCC by their own account, others were appealed in. All of them had their reasons to join this CCA, whether it is to train their bodies or to get ready for national service. After we got to know them, we carried on with our activities, and we did not have a chance to meet them anymore.
I hope that my juniors will continue to turn out for trainings and be more enthusiactic. Victoria School NPCC has won 7 gold proficiency awards and counting and we hope that we will make it to the tenth award, and this lies in the secondary 1's hands.
Victoria School NPCC is an exellent CCA and the secondary 1 pupils have made the right choice by joining it. My wish is that my CCA will continue to strive for the best, and if possible, be the best. This will require teamwork, hardwork, and unity from everyone, and i am confident that we have it.

Botanical Garden ( 12 Jan )

Three days before i wrote this blog, i went to the Botanical Gardens. It is not the first, nor second, nor third time i have been there, but every time i go, it always have surprises waiting for me. An eye-opener, the Botanical Gardens is a sanctuary for many different species of birds and insects. Many photographers love to go to the Botanical Gardens to capture wild animals in action. Enviromentalists also love to go there to look and admire the different kinds of plants, in which some are rather exotic. The Botanical Gardens also boasts a eco garden and a eco pond, in which the later has many fishes, swans and ducks.
The Singapore Botanical Gardens is one of Singapore's tourist attraction, and no doubt about it. I hope that the Singapore Botanical Gardens will be even further improve so that it last for at least another decade. The Botanical Gardens is a public place, therefore when we go there, we must alwaya observe a simple rule:"take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints."
